We have always been told from a very young age here in Thailand that as long as we had a roof over our heads then everything in life would be all right. This is sound advice and is one of the reasons why many Thai people try to get themselves onto at least the first rung of the property ladder. Many people in Thailand own their own land and so they start to build the house bit by bit until it is finally finished. This allows them the comfort of not having to pay a mortgage for the rest of their lives but in the big cities like Bangkok, a mortgage is a normal part of daily living.

- Keep your roof clean – It doesn’t take long for things like leaves and other types of debris that comes from trees settling onto the roof of your property. All of this needs to be cleaned away or it will damage the strength of the roof itself. In Thailand, we experience very high temperatures and alongside humidity, this can really cause your roof to deteriorate quickly if you don’t take care of it.
- Carry out regular roof maintenance – Nobody expects you to get up there by yourself because it is quite a distance off the ground and so you can always turn to a roofing expert to help you out here. The key is to find smaller issues before they become much bigger problems further down the line and the last thing that you want is for rain to be leaking into the building itself. If you suspect that there are any leaks or damage on your roof, get it addressed now rather than later.
- Be on the lookout for corrosion – It’s impossible to see everything that is happening on your roof just standing on the street and looking up and so you need to get someone up there to check that there is no corrosion on your roof. You can stop corrosion occurring in the first place by keeping your gutters clean around your property and as was mentioned before, cleaning off debris stops water pooling which causes corrosion.
