Outdoor spaces are becoming an increasingly valuable part of owning a home. Many people want to be able to go outside, especially after a long and busy day, and simply relax.

Of course, bringing outdoor areas up to the quality you expect isn’t always easy. However, if you use metal elements in your contemporary spaces, you can turn them into fantastic places to spend your time.

Stainless Steel Fire Pits

One option  is to invest in a stainless steel fire pit. These are becoming more popular due to their social aspect and the fact that they can keep you warm during the cooler winter months. Many have an inviting glow, making you want to sit around them and just have a chat with friends.

If you can pick a minimalist steel design, that’s even better. These can use wood or work on piped gas from elsewhere.

Corten Steel Planters

You could also explore adding corten steel planters to your exterior areas. These add a modern touch, thanks to their weathered appearance and durability.

What’s nice about these planters is how they’re able to withstand the harsh weather. You can leave them outside in all climates and they’re usually fine.

Steel Shades

Adding shade & steel products is another option if you need some respite from the sun. These block most of the incoming rays, allowing you to work on the computer without glare, or spend the afternoon reading a book while avoiding sunburn.

Metal Mesh Furniture

Adding to the metallic theme, metal mesh furniture is another option. These items are essentially premium versions of the woven vinyl seating that has become increasingly popular in recent years, which itself mimicked rattan.

Metal mesh sounds uncomfortable, but it is actually okay because of the weaved design. Most seating options have significant give while also being robust enough to be left outside.

Aluminum Pergolas

Usually, pergolas are made of wood, but these days, some manufacturers make them from lightweight aluminum. Many come black powder-coated, giving them a sleek look that blends effortless into a contemporary exterior space.

What’s nice is that you can combine aluminum pergolas with climbing plants or fairy lights, just as you can traditional wood versions. These add more depth and visual interest to your space, allowing you to make it your own.

Galvanized Water Features

Another option is to add galvanised water features to your exterior spaces. These contain zinc embedded in the metal, which helps to reduce corrosion at low cost.

Galvanized water features usually come in fountain or pool form. They don’t require much maintenance, although their capacity to resist rust will eventually fade.

Metal Sculptures

Finally, you could be brave and insert some metal sculptures into your exterior spaces. These can elevate the space even further and give it a premium feel.

The obvious option is to buy something expensive and use it as a centerpiece (or something to fill the corners if you have a coffee table). However, you could also choose things like windchimes that add atmosphere and are inexpensive.
